The Open Line Penny Auction Raises Nearly $9,000
Despite the downed trees and power outages left behind by Hurricane Sandy, The Open Line's 2012 Penny Auction was held on November 2nd and was a huge success. More than 250 people, many of whom were still without power, braved the elements to support The Open Line by raising nearly $9,000 to help their friends and neighbors in need.
"We weren't sure what to expect, but even the hurricane didn't scare people away. This community is truly amazing," said Melissa Bieler, Treasurer of The Open Line's board of directors and the penny auction chair. "We are so thankful to everyone who helped make this event a success."
More than 130 local businesses and individuals made monetary contributions and donated auction items. In addition to the 200 trays of penny auction items, seven grand prizes were raffled off throughout the evening. The grand prizes included: 1) an LG 32" flat screen TV donated by Frank & Donna Falk, 2) a Ford raptor truck donated by a Friend of The Open Line, 3) a Breezesta Adirondack Chair donated by Wood Naturally, 4) a $200 VISA gift card donated by The Open Line's Board of Directors, 5) a 12-volt quad bike donated by Picture Purrfect Pet Grooming, 6) Kindle Fire HD donated by QNB Bank, and 7) a Keurig coffee machine and starter set donated by Mike's Barber Shop. This event would not be possible without the generosity and support of these donors.
At the event, special recognition was also given to The Open Line's 2012 annual sponsors: Presenting Sponsors included QNB, Stauffer Glove & Safety, and Titanium Finishing Co.; Corporate Sponsors included Falk Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., Jim Landis, Inc., Perkiomen Animal Hospital, PPL Corporation, St. Luke's Upper Perkiomen Outpatient Center, and Univest Bank & Trust Co.; and Contributing Sponsors included United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania and Upper Perkiomen Community Church.
