The holiday season is a time of family gatherings and gift giving, festive decorations, and wishes for peace and goodwill. However, not every family can enjoy this special time of year.
Many of the families we serve at The Open Line are facing hardships that make it increasingly difficult for them to make ends meet, especially around the holidays. As a result, parents are left feeling guilty because they cannot afford something special for their children and children feeling sad because the excitement of the holiday skips their home. It doesn't have to be this way. The Open Line offers two holiday gift programs: Adopt-a-Family and Angel Tags. Both of these programs help restore the spirit of the holidays to these local families in need.
In 2011, The Open Line provided 240 local families and 641 children with a holiday they will never forget (a 15.5% increase in the total number of children served from 2010). Thanks to assistance from the community in volunteer and financial support every single family requesting help received it. This would not have been possible without the support of generous and caring community members who adopted families or purchased items from Angel Tags. Thank you!
Adopt-a-Family Program
For this program, sponsors volunteer to "adopt" an individual or family for the holiday season. The family requesting assistance provides a "Wish List" for each child of much-needed items, such as clothing, warm blankets, gift cards, and of course…toys. Sponsors can be as creative and generous as their time and resources allow. If you or your group is interested in sponsoring this family for the holiday season, please contact Laura Detweiler at The Open Line.
If you are in need of assistance this holiday season, please contact Laura Detweiler at The Open Line. Participants in The Open Line's Adopt-a-Family program cannot be participating in another agency's Holiday Program.
Angel Tag Program
The Open Line's Angel Tag program provides an opportunity for the personal touch as shoppers can select an Angel Tag at an area store or church. Each Angel Tag provides the age, gender, clothing sizes and a special Christmas wish of a needy child or senior. Caring individuals select one or more of the tags from the tree, purchase the gift from the tag and return the unwrapped gifts to The Open Line. The gifts are then distributed to the intended recipient in time for Christmas Eve.
Look for our Angel Tags at the following locations:
- Wal-Mart (located in East Greenville)
- Redners (located in Red Hill)
- St. Mark's Lutheran Church (located in Pennsburg)
- Univest (East Greenville and Green Lane locations)
- Hereford Post Office
- Marlborough Elementary School Holiday Bazaar, December 3
